What’s happening in Performing Arts in Term 2!

Foundation Performing Arts (DRAMA): In Term 2, Foundation students will be involved in a range of drama activities with the intention of developing their expressive skills and confidence performing. Students will explore the dramatic elements through activities such as freezing into and mimicking given objects, animals and characters. They will have the opportunity to explore portraying a range of feelings and emotions through facial expression, body language and voice. Students will use voice, facial expression, movement and space to imagine and establish role and situation. There will be a focus on fairy-tales used to develop student’s characterisation skills, re-enacting simple stories like, ‘Hansel and Gretel’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. As students became more familiar with role-playing a range of simple stories in correct sequence, they will begin planning, practicing and performing their own stories in small groups.

Grade 1/2 Performing Arts (DRAMA): This semester in Drama, Grade 1/2 students will be involved in various Drama activities that focus on developing their characterisation skills. Students will participate in a range of activities such as freezing into and mimicking given objects, animals and characters. They will have the opportunity to explore the use of dramatic elements including facial expression, voice, movement and body language whilst portraying a wide range of characters. There will be a focus on portraying emotions on stage, through the use of the dramatic elements. Students will learn about dramatic forms such as storytelling, mime, improvisation and puppetry, where we will discuss strategies needed to clearly portray characters and story. We will look at the Theatre genre Comedy and use Mime as a performance style and theatrical technique, exploring gesture, expression and movement to create action and emotion without words.

Grade 3/4 Performing Arts (DRAMA): This semester in Drama, Grade 3 and 4 students will be involved in a range of activities centered on the further development of their characterisation skills. They will continue to experiment with the dramatic elements facial expression, voice, movement and gesture, whilst portraying a wide range of characters. Students will continue to extend their knowledge and abilities through dramatic forms such as storytelling, mime and improvisation. This term we will discuss and practice a range of stage skills, when re-enacting short stories using simple scripts. We will look at the Theatre genres Comedy and Horror and use mime as a performance style and theatrical technique, exploring gesture, expression and movement to create action and emotion without words. They will work individually and in small groups to explore and create mime inspired works.

Grade 5/6 Performing Arts (Drama): This semester, Grade 5/6 students will be involved in a range of activities centered on extending their characterisation skills in various performance styles and genres in Drama. They will continue to experiment with the dramatic elements facial expression, voice, movement and gesture whilst portraying a wide range of roles. Students will continue to extend their knowledge and abilities through dramatic forms such as storytelling, mime and improvisation. This term we will discuss and practice a range of stage skills, when re-enacting short stories using simple scripts. Students will explore theatre genres Comedy and Soap Opera whilst experimenting with mime as a performance style and theatrical technique, using gesture, expression and movement to create action and emotion without words. They will work individually and in small groups to create works and begin to explore the world of script writing.
