What’s happening in Visual Arts term 3

Foundation 

In Term 3, the Foundation students will continue to explore a range of Visual Art practices inspired by books, events and topics. They will finish learning about the primary and secondary colours which they started last term before moving on to experimental painting techniques using acrylic paints and still life painting using water colours. Students will also create Artworks based on popular children’s books “The Way Back Home” and “Ugly Fish”. Later in the term, students will use their imagination and problem solving skills to construct something of their choice from simple everyday objects – paper plates and cardboard tubes.

Grade 1 / 2

In Term 3, the Grade 1 and 2 students will be exploring painting techniques which will include revising basic colour theory, exploring a range of experimental painting techniques, pattern making with various found objects and the simple printmaking technique, monotype. As part of this unit, students will examine the work of Artist/ Illustrator/ Author Eric Carle and create an Artwork based on his trademark painting and collaging technique. Later in the term, students will use their imagination and problem solving skills to construct something of their choice from simple everyday objects – paper plates and cardboard tubes.

                                   

Grade 3 /4

In term 3, Grade 3 and 4 students will be looking at the work of the famous Japanese Woodblock Artist, Hokusai. Students will be creating their own Artwork as part of a class series titled “36 Views of Uluru” inspired by Hokusai’s famous series “36 Views of Mt Fuji”. Students will then move on to exploring still life drawing and painting techniques which will include comparing watercolour and acrylic paints. The final topic for exploration in Term 3 will be learning about traditional animation techniques and creating a “digital flipbook” using a specific app on their iPad. Students will continue to record and reflect on the work they make and view in their Digital Portfolio on their iPad.

 

Grade 5/6

In term 3, Grade 5 and 6 students will be learning about basic pattern and simple sewing techniques by designing and creating their very own soft toy. Students will then move on to exploring still life drawing and painting techniques which will include comparing watercolour and acrylic paints. The final topic for exploration in Term 3 will be learning about traditional animation techniques and creating a “digital flipbook” using a specific app on their iPad. Students will continue to record and reflect on the work they make and view in their Digital Portfolio on their iPad.
